Lt. Sam Francis Retires

On May 31, 2006 CIM bid farewell to Lt. Sam Francis. Sam is well respected and loved by all his friends and employees at CIM. Before his retirement, Sam was assigned as the Watch Commander in the Security Administration Building on 2nd watch. However, Sam was best known as CIM's Gang Coordinator, a position he held for many years. Sam was a wealth of knowledge in this area and staff from all areas of the institution came to him when they needed his expertise. Sam is the ultimate professional and set an example for all his peers and subordinates to follow.  On his final day, after obtaining all the signatures he needed for his checkout paper work, he was escorted by two patrol cars with lights and sirens as he drove out of CIM for the final time. It was a very happy moment with plenty of misty eyes watching him leave. Sam will be missed by all his friends at CIM. Sam has moved to Oklahoma with his wife, where he plans to do plenty of fishing and relaxing.

First Annual Memorial Walk/Run in Honor of
Manuel Gonzalez Jr.

Reported by:

Sgt. Frank Quezada CCSO/CIM Board Member:

Sgt. Quezada graciously took photos, on the Memorial Walk/Run in honor of Manuel Gonzalez Jr. that was held Saturday, January 7 th. This was a day to remember a fallen officer, and CCSO State President Rich Tatum, along with CCSO-CIM Chapter President Daniel Wirth and fellow supervisors attended.

Sgt. Frank Quezada reported:

“It turned out to be a great event. A section of Chino Hills Parkway that leads into the institution was renamed Manuel Gonzalez Jr. Drive. There were many supervisors and their families that were involved in the proceedings. It was wonderful seeing our children and family members enjoying themselves on a beautiful sunny day. The staff involved in organizing this event deserve to be commended for a fantastic job. They are too numerous to name, so I will not mention them by name ─ they know who they are. However, I would like to thank and commend the Lieutenants, Sergeants, and Officers on all shifts that worked not only on Saturday but also on Friday and Sunday. This staff not only came in to work, but almost all were ordered over once or twice during this weekend. Some supervisors and officers came in to work on their RDO’s because they knew the institution was going to be hurting. Believe me, we did not do it only for the overtime money, right now all of us can work an overtime almost anytime we want. They were walking the toughest beat in the State so that some of our staff and their families could enjoy this event. This makes me proud of our staff.

I also want to thank Warden Mike Poulous and the managers that were involved in helping and in participating in the walk/run. “
